A little about Business Defense at Tompkins McGuire
Tompkins, McGuire defends self-insured corporations and insurance carriers, directly and through third-party administrators. Using an aggressive approach and the experience that only a high-volume practice can offer, we competently and economically defend business owners against both the legitimate and the sometimes baseless claims brought by employees. Because we handle so many workers compensation cases, we are assigned one day every third week in every regional court, thereby reducing in-court expenses — an important advantage to our business clients with an eye on the bottom line. We regularly defend companies and their personnel against claims of discrimination, wrongful discharge, sexual harassment and unfair labor practices.
Our attorneys appear regularly before the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Courts, New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division, the New Jersey Supreme Court, and U.S. Courts of Appeals on behalf of clients seeking or opposing the reversal of trial court determinations. Our appellate practitioners are skilled in the preparation and presentation of written and oral arguments. A number of our attorneys have had appellate clerkships, including New Jersey Supreme Court clerkships. At Tompkins, McGuire we consider our appellate practice to be an important extension of our litigation practice.
